Union Council
Union Council
The ruling body of the Students’ Unions is Union Council (A meeting with Class Reps and Union Executive). This allows members of the Students’ Union to discuss things together and make decisions about the way in which they want the Students’ Union to run. Every class elects class reps to sit and vote in Union Council. Union Council, held once a month, is where all the important Students’ Union decisions are made. Class reps can speak on your behalf and after Union Council they report back to their respective classes to inform them about each major decision the Students’ Union is making and basically what is going on.
Class Reps
No matter how much or how little you choose to involve yourself in your union, it should always remain relevant to your college experience. Whether it’s providing services, representing students on university committees, organising events, or acting as an information point, your union is constantly working on your behalf. It is also symbolic of the unity shared between our students and this is something to be proud of. It’s all about students helping students – its your Union, and its continued success requires your unrelenting input. Representatives from each class act as a medium between the S.U. Executive and each individual Maynooth student. Each year students are encouraged to become class reps. and to attend a training seminar. If your class isn't currently being represented, why not nominate yourself or someone from your class? It's easy, just come on into the Students' Union and have a chat about it. By becoming involved you will have the opportunity to meet many new friends and gain invaluable experience doing so. As a class rep. you would be representing the concerns of your class to Union Council and keeping your class informed of what’s going on in the union. You get to vote on all the major decisions to be taken by the Union over the year, and you can really make a difference within the Union and the college for your fellow students.
